Anna University allows students to do two online courses

CHENNAI: Anna University has decided to allow engineering students to do two online courses in the related areas during their BE BTech course Students also can directly transfer up to six credits from their online courses to their degree programmes.

Under the earlier regulations, the students could do one online course but could not transfer credits. Credits were allowed only if the student cleared an exam conducted by the university.

The new rules are to encourage students to take up online courses on Swayam platform."

Anna University's academic courses director professor S Hosimin Thilagar made an online presentation on the new rules to principals of affiliated colleges on Monday.

Explaining the new regulations which increased the weightage for internal assessment for affiliated colleges from 20% to 40%, professor Thilagar said, "The increased weightage will give due importance to teaching and learning process in classrooms. The students will be assessed based on individual assignments, case study, seminar, mini project and written tests."

The colleges need to maintain the academic records for all the internal assessments for academic audit by experts from other institutions.

"The university will follow the relative grading principle to avoid inflation of marks in internal assessment. The students will get grades based on collective performance," he added.

The new regulations also allow slow learners to drop a course within 30 days of commencement of the course if he or she feels that the theory course is difficult.

The university released the curriculum only for the first two semesters. For higher semesters, the university will incorporate inputs from industry in the curriculum.

The new regulations are to encourage students to take up more online courses offered on various platforms
