Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer mourn loss of beloved dog

Anna Paquin

Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer, known for their roles in the vampire drama True Blood, are currently mourning the loss of their beloved dog Banjo. The couple confirmed the sad news on Monday, revealing that Banjo had passed away on Friday, peacefully surrounded by his loved ones.

Moyer took to Instagram to share the heartbreaking news, expressing how Banjo had been slowly fading away over the past few weeks. He recounted how Banjo would take a few steps during their walks before needing to rest and sleep. The actor also described Banjo's unique personality, recalling how he would often seek solace in cozy corners of the room, hiding under tables and desks.

The couple, who got married in 2010, rescued Banjo from a Puppy Mill in 2009. Moyer reflected on their first meeting, when Banjo was found peacefully asleep in a corner while the other dogs were energetically vying for attention. Banjo's appearance was a unique blend of a Dingo, with a Louisiana Catahoula leopard dog's features and a greyhound's back legs. He possessed one 'boss eye' that gave him an intriguing gaze.

Moyer revealed the backstory behind Banjo's name, with him initially associating it with the character from the film Deliverance. However, the true inspiration came from Anna Paquin's love for the song 'Old Susanna,' which contains the lyrics 'With my banjo on my knee.' It felt like fate that Banjo, their true love, had found them, as if he were their Louisiana lad.

The couple clearly adored Banjo, referring to him as a 'good good boy' who was loved deeply despite his eccentricities. Moyer fondly remembered Banjo's uniqueness and expressed how much he will be missed. Throughout their time with Banjo, Moyer and Paquin frequently shared updates on their joint Instagram account, @daveandbanj.

Anna Paquin reposted Moyer's heartfelt tribute on her own social media, reiterating that she couldn't find better words than those of her husband. The couple's bond extends beyond their work together, as they first met on the set of True Blood in 2009. They have since built a beautiful life together, welcoming twins in 2012.

This sad news serves as a reminder of the deep emotional connection we can form with our animal companions. Banjo's unique personality and the love he brought to Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer's lives will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact. Our thoughts go out to the couple as they navigate this difficult time of grief and loss.
