Ann Widdecombe’s remote home in Devon shown on TV days before her death

  • Ann Widdecombe, 78, a former Conservative prisons minister and Reform Party spokeswoman, was found murdered with serious injuries inside her remote home in Haytor, Devon.
  • Her death occurred a week after a re-broadcast of a TV episode of Celebrity Yorkshire Auction House featuring a tour of her bungalow, which she named ‘Widdecombe’s Rest’.
  • A 28-year-old white British man from Rotherham, South Yorkshire, was initially arrested on suspicion of murder on July 11 but has been re-arrested on suspicion of commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism.
  • Police believe Ms Widdecombe was attacked on Wednesday at about 12:30pm.
  • Counter Terrorism Policing South East (CTPSE) is now leading the dynamic and complex investigation, continuing to collaborate with local police to establish the full circumstances.
