Ann Widdecombe funeral: Ministers among mourners gathered to pay respects

  • Figures from politics and the media have gathered at Buckfast Abbey in Devon for the funeral service of former Conservative minister Ann Widdecombe.
  • Mourners attending the Catholic requiem mass included Shadow Chancellor Mel Stride, former justice minister Crispin Blunt, and broadcaster Iain Dale.
  • The 78-year-old Reform UK spokeswoman died on 8 July following an attack at her home in Dartmoor, for which 28-year-old Joshua Kerry has been charged with murder.
  • Tributes during the private service were paid by her nephew, the Rev Roger Widdecombe, and close friend Sir Christian Sweeting, alongside a homily from the Abbot of Buckfast.
  • Donations made in memory of Miss Widdecombe will be divided between two Christian charities, with a public memorial service to be held later this year.
