Animal Friends release date pushed back again

Animal Friends’ release date has been pushed back to 2027.

The upcoming road trip movie – starring Ryan Reynolds and Jason Momoa – was originally due for release on October 10, 2025, before being delayed to May 1, 2026 and now pushed to January 22, 2027, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Reynolds and Momoa will star alongside Aubrey Plaza, Daniel Levy, Addison Rae, Ellie Bamber and Lil Rel Howery in the film that will combine both live-action and animated characters.

The plot is being kept under wraps – although insiders are billing the film as an R-rated road trip adventure - and Peter Atencio is set to direct from a script by writing duo Kevin Burrows and Matt Mider.

The film is being produced by entertainment company Legendary, Reynolds’ Maximum Effort banner and producer Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios.

Animal Friends was originally a Sony Pictures film but it moved to Warner Bros. in 2024 through the studio’s deal with Legendary.

Meanwhile, it was previously revealed that Jason Momoa will star in the upcoming action adventure movie Helldivers, an adaptation of the popular video game.

The movie – from Sony Pictures and Playstation Productions – will be released on November 10, 2027.

Fast Furious franchise filmmaker Justin Lin will direct the film.

The video game is set in the year 2084 and features elite soldiers who race to protect their home planet Super Earth from invading species.

The plot of the movie has not yet been revealed but it is expected to follow the video game.

This marks the latest big-screen collaboration between Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions following 2022’s adaptation Uncharted.

Uncharted starred Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg and made $407 million globally.

On the small screen, Sony and PlayStation have worked together on Peacock series Twisted Metal and Emmy-winning show The Last of Us for HBO.
