Angus MacDonald completes Aberdeen transfer as former Swindon defender becomes second deadline day signing

Aberdeen have landed their second deadline day sining after snapping up experienced defender Angus MacDonald from Swindon Town on a short term, permanent deal. The 30-year-old follows Dutch keeper Jay Gorter who arrived earlier in the day.

MacDonald was released by the Robins and heads to Pittodrie where he will add a wealth of experience having made almost 300 appearances south of the border. He came through the ranks at Reading before a number of loan spells. The stopper progressed to the Championship where he was captain at Barnsley and later moved to Hull City before spells at Rotherham and then finally Swindon Town where he was handed the captain’s armband.

Aberdeen interim boss Barry Robson, who stepped in after Jim Goodwin's sacking, said of the capture: “Angus has played an abundance of games at a high level down south and brings with him a wealth of experience which I think will be hugely beneficial to us in the second part of the season. He’s been captain at many of his clubs and I’ve no doubt his leadership will be invaluable.”

MacDonald trained with the Dons squad and could make his debut in the Scottish Premiership clash against St Mirren at Pittodrie on Wednesday.
