Ambition and principles must match finances if Andrea Radrizzani is to take on new investment at Leeds United.
Radrizzani’s Elland Road chief executive, Angus Kinnear, has reportedly told one fans’ forum the Italian will always welcome investment at United, but it has to be more than just money.
LUFCTALK, a Whites fans’ forum, has published a Q&A it says was done with Kinnear and the final question is around ownership.
The forum asked: “The following question is based on the common assumption (which some on this forum do not necessarily agree with) Andrea Radrizzani is keen on selling his controlling interest of the club.
“In the light of what's happening at Newcastle United, could you tell us how the Leeds board feels about investment and any potential sale of the club in terms of who would actually buy us?
“This question is specifically concerning ‘controversial’ countries’ regimes.”
Speculation linking the Whites with Qatar Sports Investments and its chief Nasser Al-Khelaifi, the current chairman at Paris Saint-Germain, has been rife for more than a year.
However, little of substance has yet come from the media reports.
Kinnear allegedly reiterated Radrizzani’s door is always open, but pointed to 49ers Enterprises as an example of the type of partner they wanted.
“Andrea is a passionate and committed owner, but has always said he will always welcome investment that can make Leeds United stronger,” he said.
“This does not just mean having the available funds, but also the right ambition and principles for Leeds United. This was why our first equity partner was the 49ers.”
