Angus Kinnear reveals Leeds United transfer benchmark with summer window plans underway

Angus Kinnear says Leeds United do not have to look too far for a benchmark when it comes to further Premier League signings.

Speaking on BBC Radio Leeds, the club's CEO picked out Brazilian sensation Raphinha as an example of the level of business that the Whites hope to replicate as they look to continue to build in the Premier League.

Despite last night's 2-0 defeat to West Ham United, Leeds are well-placed to finish among the mid-table pack in their first season back in the big time.

Marcelo Bielsa's side are currently 11th in the table, three points adrift of Arsenal.

Raphinha has more than played his part in that success, too, with five goals and five assists to his name since joining for £17million from French Ligue 1 club Rennes last summer.

It's a return that has, according to reports, got the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool interested in his services.

However, in highlighting the Brazilian as a prominent example of the club's promising work in the transfer market, Kinnear moved to dispel any fears that he could depart after just one season at Elland Road.

He said: "If we get our transfer dealings right and identify the right targets - and get the right deals across the line - it's inevitable that they are going to attract attention higher up the league.

"It's the benchmark for all our signings. If people aren't looking at them, then it probably means we've got them wrong.

"This is something that we are just going to have to live with.

"What I think we do have, we have got a fantastic coach, a fantastic coaching set-up and a fantastic squad. We give all the players every reason why they should stay at Leeds United.

"We think that we've got enough ambition to match their ambition."

Kinnear added: "At the moment from Raphinha, he loves playing for Leeds United. The only thing he doesn't love about playing for Leeds United is there are no fans at the moment. He's desperate for those fans to come back.

"I think we have got a lot more to see and a lot more to come from him. Fans should be very confident that he's a major part of our plans going forward."
