Why Leeds United will earn crucial FFP boost during the January transfer window

Angus Kinnear has welcomed Leeds United's FA Cup third round draw against Arsenal - and the financial boost that the club will receive.

Marcelo Bielsa's side were pitted against the Premier League giants when the draw was made and will head down to the Emirates Stadium on Monday, January 6 for a match which will be broadcast live on the BBC.

As well as presenting Leeds with the chance to pit themselves against a top flight side, Kinnear also hailed the 'not insignificant' financial impact of the tie, which will boost the club's Profit & Sustainability figures under FFP regulations.

"The FA Cup draw has given us the opportunity to test our Premier League credentials with a January trip to the Emirates Stadium to play Arsenal," he writes in his programme notes ahead of the Hull City clash.

"While the footballing challenge has excited everyone associated with the club, the financial impact of the tie is not insignificant, with the shared revenue from ticketing and TV counting towards our Profit & Sustainability allowance."

With the ties having been moved for TV coverage, Kinnear also mentioned the plight of travelling fans who will have to make the trip on a Monday night.

"Disappointingly, part of the commercial upside comes at the expense of the game being moved to a Monday evening and the resulting inconvenience for our travelling support.

"We will continue to make representations for the travelling logistics of away fans to be part of the fixture scheduling decision making while at the same time knowing that whenever and wherever the game was played, the 8,000 allocation will still not be nearly enough for our travelling faithful."
