Angus Kinnear talks up Leeds United's 'most significant' signing of the summer

Leeds United managing director Angus Kinnear issued an update on the club's transfer activity following Thursday's fixture release.

The Whites now know they will start the season with a trip to Ashton Gate to face Bristol City in front of the Sky Sports cameras on Sunday, August 4.

With the squad due back at Thorp Arch for pre-season training on Monday, there has been little transfer activity so far, with the only deal completed by the club being the sale of defender Paudie O'Connor to Bradford City.

Leeds have been linked with a number of players this summer, including the likes of Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Helder Costa, Brighton & Hove Albion defender Ben White and also with another loan for Manchester City winger Jack Harrison, who spent last year at Elland Road.

And Kinnear has spoken to Sky Sports about where the club are currently at with their summer spending plans.

"We're very confident in the squad that we've got," he said.

"They came very close. We believe they deserved to go up so we have absolute confidence in the squad, but as always we're looking for opportunities to strengthen that squad and if those opportunities come along we'll take them."

Kinnear also reflected on Marcelo Bielsa's decision to extend his stay in West Yorkshire, insisting his fresh commitment to the club was key.

"Absolutley. He's the most significant signing. It wasn't a difficult conversation. He's committed, he know's there's unfinished business to do.

"He's disappointed that we just fell short last season but he has absolutely the belief that he knows precisely what to do to make sure we get it right this year."
