Angry Trump attacks 'highly conflicted' Robert Mueller in error-filled retort to damning statement

That was quick, Don!

After a restrained initial response to Robert Mueller's devastating statement, President Trump attacked the special counsel as "highly conflicted" and repeated several false claims about the Russia probe.

In a breakfast flurry of tweets, Trump returned to his familiar slash-and-burn attacks, calling the meticulous investigation a "Witch Hunt Hoax" and "phony."

Trump also falsely claimed that Mueller "would've filed charges" if he had found "ANYTHING," meaning evidence of wrongdoing by the president. Actually, the stoic prosecutor explained in detail that he was bound by Justice Department policies that bar such a finding against a sitting president.

Mueller pointedly refused to clear Trump and even explosively said publicly that he would have cleared Trump if the evidence suggested he had not committed crimes.

Trump was uncharacteristically restrained in his first statement after Mueller's bombshell statement, which apparently opened the door for Congress to begin impeachment hearings.

He declared the probe over but refrained from insulting Mueller and did not deride the investigation.

But after a few hours sleep, Trump apparently decided to return to the path he has followed for much of the past two years.

Republicans are now pushing an investigation into the "origins" of the Russia probe, even though Mueller laid out the ample evidence that Russia interfered with the 2016 election on Trump's behalf and sought extensive contacts with his campaign to further that campaign.
