Angry The Chase player is brutally honest after tense showdown with Anne Hegerty

A player on The Chase did not hide his sheer disappointment after his teammates lost his a significant amount of money on the show.

Contestant Gary performed well in his general knowledge rounds, but he was let down by his fellow players, Richard and Kay, who lost the £13,000 offer.

Chaser Anne Hegerty was on her usual top form and managed to catch the players, leaving them going home empty handed.

When host Bradley Walsh rounded up the game at the end of the show, he noticed that Gary looked furious.

Gary made no secret of the fact he was raging (ITV)

"Tough to take that, it's a close run thing, you look very disappointed Gary, I've got to say," said Bradley.

"Yeah, I think anyone would be disappointed not to go home with four grand," Gary replied.

"Absolutely," said Bradley. "Had Louise got to the final it would have been a different story, an extra place would've eaten up for seconds of time straight away.

Anne Hegerty admitted she understood why Gary was so disappointed (ITV)

"However, I have to take away the £13,000, thoroughly enjoyed playing along with you all, I have to tell you Richard, Kay and Gary, finally you have been caught and the chase is over."

Anne added: "Given it was only a margin of eight seconds, that's literally just one or two questions.

"I can understand why you're disappointed, because it was that close."

Viewers praised Gary's refreshing honesty as most players are incredibly gracious even if they go home empty handed, and never admit they are upset.

One tweeted: "I think anyone would be disappointed not to go home with £4k!!... Thank god an honest answer!!! #TheChase ".

Another wrote: "Finally someone saying they are disappointed they have lost #TheChase most say it's been a great day to have lost!"

Bradley Walsh was called out for giving incorrect information in a question (ITV)

"Gary looked gutted Listening to Anne’s questions ! He knew a lot of them!! #TheChase," added another.

Meanwhile, other viewers were irritated as one of the show's answers was factually incorrect.

The question was about the 1945 play An Inspector Calls, and Bradley called the inspector "Inspector Poole".

This is incorrect, as the character is actually called Inspector Goole, which is intended to be a wordplay on "ghoul".

One angry viewer tweeted: " #TheChase FFS it's Inspector GOOLE!!

"This is the second time you've said the answer's Poole - come onnn, it's a plot device for God's sake".

"I’m offended on behalf of inspector goole #TheChase," quipped another.

"Er, pretty sure it's Inspector Goole in 'An Inspector Calls'... #thechase," added a third.

* The Chase airs on weekdays on ITV at 5pm
