Angry swan chases police in bizarre stand-off on Walton street

This is the moment a raging swan turned the tables on up to six police officers after it was cornered on a Walton street.

The angry bird left the old bill in a flap on a high-stakes chase around Ingrave Road, near Walton Hall Park, in scenes reminiscent of the 2007 hit cop comedy Hot Fuzz.

A video shows one officer try and subdue the out-of-control creature by throwing a blanket over its head.

But the streetwise swan is having absolutely none of that and merely brushes it aside.

The arrest attempt in tatters, the officer breaks into a jog as the assailant charges Merseyside's finest.

A police patrol car and a van are also involved in the team effort to bring the bird into custody as part of the crime quackdown.

A woman can be heard chuckling as the operation continues.

One witness told the ECHO: "There are about six police officers chasing a swan, it is hilarious.

"The funny thing is every time they manage to corner it, it turns round and starts chasing them and they run away.

"It's a residential street and it's miles away from any lakes so I don't know why it has landed there."

According to a BBC article, the common warning that swans can break a human limb with a blow from their wings is a myth, and their aggression is "mostly bluster."

The incident lasted around an hour according to witnesses, who said the swan eventually gave itself up and lay down in front of the police car.
