Angry Scots mum shares chip shop's 'outrageous' response to job-hunting daughter

A Scots mum was left angry after a chip shop allegedly mocked her daughter for applying for a job there. Natalie Cochrane posted screenshots on Facebook of the conversation she says took place with Oasis Fish and Chips in Cumbernauld.

The person replying apparently makes fun of her daughter Simone after she mentioned she was interested in a job working behind the counter. The owner has apologised for exchange, saying they have made "a change in senior management" reports the Mirror.

Someone accessing the shop account replied to the original chat saying: "Hi, I contacted you after you applied to the position of counter assistant. If you are not serious about finding employment you should probably stop applying."

Simone then responded: "Hey I never received anything," and then indicated she was no longer interested in the job.

The shop account then replied: "hahahahahahahahahaha. As if I would hire you."

Natasha shared the screenshot on Facebook, saying: "This is Oasis chippy's response to my daughters application for a counter assistant, they never contacted her previously about the vacancy.

"She obviously felt uncomfortable about their rude messages so declined the vacancy, then they messaged her laughing saying 'as if I would hire you'. "What kind of ***** own this chippy? I messaged them and they were as rude to me."

People commenting were unimpressed with the exchange. One replied: "So sorry, your daughter has an experience like this when trying to get a job."

Another wrote: "I had a similar message telling me stop applying!! when the previous time i had applied was a year before and turned it down due to bad reviews about working there!!!"

A third said: "That's terrible! What a way to treat the next generation of workers. They are having a bad enough time of it as it is. I would be straight down there if she sent that to my daughter."

In a post of its own, the chip shop said: "Following on from the Facebook post from Natalie Cochrane and after extensive conversations with her, I as owner of Oasis whole heartedly apologise for the comments made on behalf of Oasis to Natalie’s daughter Simone.

"I have two young daughters myself and in no way do I condone the comments made.

Management from Oasis posted their own response. (Facebook)

"We treat complaints seriously and as a result of the Facebook post, I have decided to have a change in senior management at Oasis where I will be more actively involved with immediate effect.

"I will also be looking into all allegations made by former employees and customers. So, if you feel in any way affected by the post, please contact me directly at oasisfishandchips@gmail.com."
