Angry Good Morning Britain viewers demand 'ridiculous' Emmerdale is taken off air

Angry calls for Emmerdale to be taken off the air emerged in a Good Morning Britain debate this morning.

EastEnders legend Derek Martin, who played Charlie Slater in the BBC soap, joined GMB hosts Kate Garraway and Ben Shephard and suggested soaps now are too serious and need to return to a more lighthearted tone.

Derek said: “With all these problems we've got now with covid and everything else, people need a bit of humour to break it up."

While, former Coronation Street star Nicola Thorp, who played Nicola Rubinstein, argued the balance is about right.

While our Yorkshire soap Emmerdale wasn’t represented in the debate, it didn’t stop some GMB viewers making their thoughts known on Twitter.

One GMB viewer @kev_g63 said: “Emmerdale has more gangsters and murderers in it than the East End, village of the damned.”

We saw @Chrishills222 write: “I totally agree soaps now are too dark and no humour. I stopped watching EastEnders three-years-ago - now corrie and Emmerdale.”

An Emmerdale viewer @Itt39354118 said: “The storyline with Meena in Emmerdale is just ridiculous.”

While another viewer @mrs_m_jones made a sensational call. They said: “Soaps are too dark, full of doom and gloom. I stopped watching EastEnders years ago, followed by Corrie - just need to get rid of Emmerdale!”

Although, we did see at least one person jump to Emmerdale’s defence.

Fan @ofselina said: “Emmerdale has the balance perfectly right.”
