An 8-month-old baby elephant was rescued four hours after it fell in a mud pit in Hambantota, Sri Lanka.

In a video distributed by Derana TV, two men are seen running after dumping their motorcycle when the mother elephant charged at them, Reuters reported.

Villagers in the area informed wildlife officials earlier that a female elephant was attacking people on the road as her baby elephant had fallen into a pit, local media said.

An excavator was sent to dig out an escape path for the calf.

According to Derana TV, The elephants later reunited and disappeared into the jungle.
