Angry customers face up to a week wait for Tesco, Asda and Sainsburys deliveries

Angry shoppers are criticising people who are panic buying after experiencing long waits for delivery slots from the major supermarkets.

Shoppers have shared their frustration with people who are bulk buying as they cause waits of up to a week to book a delivery slot with Tesco, Asda and Sainsburys.

A shopper said: "It’s harder to get a Tesco delivery slot right now than at Christmas, so I had to go to the actual shop. Shelves empty, long queues. And I’m just trying to do my weekly shop."

Another added: "I tried to book a Tesco delivery slot for this weekend to find ALL of the slots have been taken so now will have to spend my weekend shopping around for my weekly shop . Stop bulk buying!!"

Online supermarket Ocado has said more people are ordering deliveries online and some are making large bulk-buying orders, which is affecting delivery slots for others.

It said: "We’re experiencing exceptionally high demand at the moment. More people than usual seem to be placing particularly large orders. As a result, delivery slots are selling out quicker than expected."

Despite government advice and calls from supermarkets to not panic amid the Coronavirus outbreak, some shoppers are panic buying toilet roll, hand sanitiser and other grocery items and leaving supermarket shelves empty. This has limited supplies for those who need them and has caused a wave of criticism online.

Those who are securing a delivery slot are reporting missing items including toilet roll, hand sanitiser and rice.

A frustrated shopper said: "I got my usual Tesco delivery this morning, a lot of stuff was out of stock, including toilet roll. The driver says that the store is completely out of it. People are bonkers."

Meanwhile, online stores such as Amazon are currently selling toilet roll and hand sanitiser, with toilet roll products making up 13 of the top twenty best-sellers on the site as worried shoppers bulk buy.

We have approached Tesco for information on demand for delivery slots.
