Eyebrows were raised when newlywed Sarah Barlow went into a epic meltdown over her estranged husband Adam.
As Sarah blasted flirty Adam for trying it on with neighbour Alina Pop, some Corrie viewers were not impressed when Sarah called her husband a 'super smug Scottish git.'
Taking to Twitter they accused the soap of 'casual racism.'
"Well thats the Scottish audience switching off #casualracism," said one.
"You know that referring to someone's national origins as an insult or reason to deny something has been held to be racist, Sarah Platt?! #ScottishGit," said another angry fan.
"Scottish git, skatin on thin ice there Sarah," commented another.
"Now if Adam originated from Belfast, I wonder if she would have called him a stupid Irish git," asked another.
"Corrie why did you need to include 'Scottish' in Sarah's rant? was 'Stupid, Smug, Git' not enough? Wonder how many more Scottish references you’re going to throw in #RacistCorrie," asked another.
And another asked: "Is it me, or do people chuck in the word 'Scottish' a lot when they’re mad at Adam like it’s an insult all by itself? Can we just, like, not do that any more...? #Corrie #coronationstreet."
But other fans found the scene, featuring Underworld PA Sarah having a showdown with Adam just as a new client turned up, absolutely hilarious.
"Sarah’s meltdown just then was classic," tweeted one.
"Stupid smug Scottish git! Has to be the best line, for a long while!" said another.
In August suave solicitor Adam, played by Sam Robertson, declared his marriage over on Coronation Street after only six months.
He suspected his wife was still holding a torch for nemesis Gary Windass when she helped to protect her ex over the disappearance of loan shark Rick Neelan.
Adam popped the question as the characters hid during the dramatic siege on Christmas Day that ended with the death of Robert Preston and drunk gunman Derek Milligan and David's fiancee Shona Ramsey lying in a coma.
Sarah and Adam, the grandson of Ken and the son of the late Mike Baldwin, got together after she split with loan shark Gary, played by Mikey North, last year after the collapse of the Underworld factory which Gary had sabotaged.
