Angry Birds Star Wars II invites players to the Pork Side
Angry Birds Star Wars II features the familiar bird-flinging action, but with new characters and a few gameplay twists.Photograph: GuardianAt launch, the game includes two full chapters plus a third "Reward Chapter", with 120 levels in total. Half the levels involve playing as birds, and half as pigs.Photograph: GuardianThe levels are all modelled on locations from the Star Wars films, with players assigned different characters to fling, each with their own attack methods.Photograph: Guardian
Each level awards you one, two or three stars depending on how many points you scored, as in previous Angry Birds games.Photograph: GuardianThe plot, such as it is, is delivered through static cut-scenes, although the game also includes a section to watch the (non-Star Wars) Angry Birds Toons videos.Photograph: PRSome levels are set in space, with gravity effects coming into play as you steer characters around planets.Photograph: PRThis set-piece level in the Escape to Tatooine chapter sees you knocking fleeing ships to the ground.Photograph: GuardianAt any point you can tap a button at the top of the screen to see which additional characters you have available to swap in.Photograph: GuardianThe characters are sold in an in-app store as consumable items: you can buy 10, 30 or 100 uses of each character using virtual coins, or buy them as a permanent power-up.Photograph: GuardianRovio is selling the virtual coins in quantities of between 150 and 15,000 at a time.Photograph: PRYou can also earn coins through in-game achievements, then spend these on the additional characters.Photograph: GuardianHasbro is making the physical Telepods toys, with more than 30 characters available. The more expensive versions come with multi-piece ships and bases to build (and knock down).Photograph: GuardianCharacters can also be teleported into the game by placing their Telepod on top of your device's camera when prompted.Photograph: GuardianThe characters in Angry Birds Star Wars II are a mixture of the loved and the... not-so loved.Photograph: Guardian
