Angry backlash at tip for how to pack your Aldi shopping more easily

A simple tip for making your Aldi shop a little easier should have gone down a treat with fellow fans of bargain supermarket shopping.

Many people love shopping at Aldi because of the low prices and quirky bargains - as well as the no-nonsense range of products.

But one thing many shoppers don't like is just how fast the cashiers scan your shopping - leaving little time to get everything packed away.

One shopper had a simple idea for slowing the process down - just ask.

Writing on Facebook she said: "You can ask them to slow down, I do. They don’t mind. And never had a rude checkout operator either."

Simple, right? And some agreed.

One replied: "I always ask the checkout workers at my local ALDI to slow down a bit, so I don’t get overwhelmed."

Another said: "They always say yes and it’s always very pleasant, never had a problem."

But others reacted much more angrily to the idea.

Responding to a story in the MEN, Andrew Martin said: "If people actually did what they’re supposed to do and put their shopping directly in their trolley then packed on the shelf provided you wouldn’t have an issue."

Allan Milnes said: "You are not supposed to pack your shopping at the tills in Aldi. Stick it back in your trolley and pack it at the tables at your own pace. It's not a new concept I remember doing this in the 90's. Ive never packed a bag at the till unless its a few items."

"So many people have said it already, but you shouldn't be asking them to slow down - just put it back in the trolley/basket and pack it at the shelves opposite. Aldi and Lidl are cheap for a reason - if you don't like it; don't shop there," wrote Eden Cady-Mckellar.

Brenda Newall said: "People should either pack it at the shelf after paying or do what I do sling it in the trolley and pack it at the car, that's the whole idea of aldi and lidl get through the checkout quicker I prefer it this way no dawdling about like other supermarkets."

An Aldi spokesperson told 9Honey : "Our staff are encouraged to review and adjust their scan speed based on how quickly or slowly each customer packs their shopping. We ask that customers put their purchases back in their trolley or basket once they have been scanned, and then pack at their own pace at the long bench behind the tills.

"This not only reduces waiting times but also allows our team members to resume other responsibilities, such as filling shelves and helping customers."
