Anglesey firms impacted by Bangor lockdown may be able to claim Covid funds

Anglesey firms impacted by the local lockdown in Bangor may be able to claim Covid funds.

The university city in Gwynedd was placed in local lockdown on Saturday evening.

This will mean Bangor companies impacted will be able to claim support from the Welsh Government's Rapid Reaction (Local Lockdown) fund - although it has not yet been launched.

However Ynys Mon MS Rhun ap Iorwerth raised concerns that businesses over the Menai Strait on Anglesey were being affected by the Bangor lockdown but may not be able to get any help.

In response First Minister Mark Drakeford said there would be "Flexibility in the funds we are providing for local lockdown to neighbouring areas where the impact of that spills over into those localities, that will certainly be the case in Ynys Mon".

He added: "Once again, I'll make sure that in discussions I will have with my colleague Ken Skates that we find ways of making sure that the necessary help to firms directly affected on the island because of the Bangor restriction is taken properly into account."

This could also have impacts on other parts of Wales where firms are not in local lockdown areas but are economically affected by the measures imposed.
