Ange Postecoglou reveals Celtic transfer 'contingency' plan and gives Odsonne Edouard and Ryan Christie update

Ange Postecoglou admits that Celtic ’s transfer outgoings could affect how many more new faces come in this window.

But the club already have contingency plans in place in preparation for players leaving before next Tuesday’s deadline.

Postecoglou wants another one or two added to his squad regardless, but replacements may be needed for those who move on from Celtic Park.

A new striker is almost a certainty, but as to where else the Aussie wants to strengthen, then that will be up in the air depending on what business is done between now and the window closing.

“We’re still working hard to bring in one or two., absolutely,” he said. “The tricky part about this end of window is that you don’t know what outgoings you’re going to have, which can affect things.

“We’ve got contingency plans in place and we’re talking to a number of targets to see what business we can do.

“We still need one or two more in the group, for sure and that’s what we’ll do.

“As for what positions, again, that will depend on who may or may not be leaving. On that front, there’s nothing really concrete that’s happened yet so if anything is going to move, I expect it’s going to start moving in the next few days.”

The favourites to leave are Odsonne Edouard and Ryan Christie.

Both are in the final year of their contract, with Christie’s expiring as soon as January.

There has been interest in both over the summer but nothing new that is concrete, and Postecoglou admits he’d be more than happy to keep them both beyond the end of August.

He added: “I’m not going to try and influence or coerce players to stay if they don’t want to. What I will do is treat everyone as if they are part of this football club for as long as they are. Provided they show the commitment to what we want to do.

“Ryan and Odsonne have been outstanding. You can’t tell me they look like players who don’t want to be here. Irrespective as to what their immediate future holds, they’re contributing every day. Not just in games, but in training too and if that continues then I’d be delighted to keep them for as long as they want to stay.

“At the same time, they’re all masters of their own futures and destiny and it’s important that they make these decisions that are good for themselves.”
