Anger over pothole repair branded as 'bodge job' in Nottinghamshire town

Anger has been voiced at a pothole repair carried out in a Nottinghamshire town which has been described as a "bodge job".

Nottinghamshire County Council's Highways team turned up to fix the pothole in Hickings Lane, Stapleford on Tuesday, January 19.

The hole was filled in by the teams and then left.

But a local councillor in the area said the work was "a mess" and they would have to return to fix it properly.

With rain forecast for the next few days, there are fears the weather will make the pothole and the road worse.

Independent Stapleford councillor Richard MacRae told Nottinghamshire Live: "That is not a repair to the potholes on Hickings Lane, it is a complete bodge job and they will be back to do it again as this will soon wash away in the rain and the bad weather.

"It looks a right mess. It is a lot worse than the pictures show.

"I have messaged Nottinghamshire County Council and now await a reply."

Nottinghamshire County Council said that a further repair has since been carried out in Hickings Lane.

Ian Patchett, Highways Asset Manager, said: “We made safety repairs on Hickings Lane, Stapleford following reports of potholes which had developed on the road surface.

“Our inspectors attended site as soon as possible to repair the carriageway to make it safe for road users.

“Whilst the repairs made with a cold material are not the most aesthetically pleasing, they do make the road safe and will compact into the road surface as traffic uses the carriageway.

“Hickings Lane is currently being considered for future preventative maintenance to improve the road surface.”
