Anger in East Lothian as off-road biker puts walkers on beach at risk

An off-road biker has sparked anger among dog walkers and beach-goers in East Lothian.

Police are trying to identify the biker responsible for "a number of offences" at Belhaven Bay in Dunbar. Officers say they've received several calls about the individual in recent weeks.

They say the actions are putting walkers with dogs and horses at risk, in addition to other locals who enjoy using the beach for exercise. It's also potentially damaging given there are areas nearby protected for wildlife.

East Lothian Police want to hear from anyone with information as to the person responsible.

They say: "Over the past couple of weeks there have been a number of calls to police regarding the use of an off-road bike on the beach at Belhaven Bay, Dunbar.

"This area is popular with walkers, dogs and horses and the presence and manner of driving present a significant safety risk.

"A number of offences are being committed by this behaviour and there are areas nearby which are protected as a unique habitat for wildlife."

A number of people shared their thoughts on social media after seeing the appeal.

Chris Morgan posted: "Saw him there Sunday around midday travelling the length of the beach at top speed. Unfortunately wouldn't recognise him again but he was probably late teens."

Kirsty Bell added: "It was there last Thursday when I was at John Muir. Frightened all the dogs out walking."
