Anger at video showing dogs kept tied to fences in derelict outdoor space in Glasgow

Concerned animal lovers hit out at the conditions dogs in the East End of Glasgow are being kept in - despite an animal welfare charity insisting it's all above board.

Footage emerged on social media of the three animals restrained to fences and sitting in travel carriers in a derelict outdoor space.

Dog group 'Find Rocky and Lost and Found Glasgow ' shared the video and many concerned citizens were quick to question the standard of the shelter available for the dogs.

One woman said: "This is so sad.

"Horrendous conditions. Hope this all ends up well."

Another added: "Can’t anyone just go take them?

"Keep them warm and feed them?

SSPCA claimed conditions dogs were kept in 'met welfare standards' (Find Rocky and Lost and Found Glasgow/Facebook)

However the Scottish SPCA said although they 'are not happy with the way these animals are being kept, it still meets the minimum legal welfare standards'.

They say they are working closely with the owner to make improvements.

In a statement posted online Scottish SPCA chief inspector Elaine Lindsay said: "We understand the public concern for the three dogs at an industrial estate outside Glasgow but the Scottish SPCA can only take action to seize animals where animal welfare legislation has been contravened and it has not in this case.

"Although we are not happy with the way these animals are being kept, it still meets the minimum legal welfare standards.

"The Scottish SPCA must operate within the law.

"There is little we can do in circumstances such as this other than offer advice on improvements.

"We have attended the location several times over the last week and have given clear advice to the owner of changes that need to be made.

"We have returned to ensure our advice was heeded. We will continue to monitor the situation.

"The dogs are in good body condition and were bright, alert, social and friendly. They are not in any distress. They have access to shelter that abides by the law but we have put steps in place to ensure the animals welfare."
