Anger at Tory government after homeless man dies on cold street

Anger, outrage and sadness has been expressed today following the tragic news that a homeless man was found dead on a freezing Merseyside street.

This morning we reported how the man in his 50s was found dead on Tower Road in Birkenhead yesterday.

His body was discovered by an office worker and police said his next of kin have been informed.

The force is not treating the death as suspicious, meaning it is likely he died because of his predicament on the cold streets.

Echo readers have today reacted with anger and deep sadness at the news of another death on the streets.

Some commenting on social media asked why more local buildings can't be opened up to provide shelter, while others discussed the complex nature of homelessness.

But amongst the comments there was one strong theme running through - an anger at the government for overseeing a stark rise in homelessness.

Pat Robinson said: "This should not be happening , words can't even describe my thoughts, just absolutely no need at all."

Lyn Heron added: "And people will still vote for Boris Johnson, so sad this should not be happening in today's society."

Natasha Park pointed out that the Conservative manifesto states an aim to end homelessness by 2027.

She added: "That’s just not good enough!! Needs sorting out now!!! Poor man."

Stephen Trousdale agreed, adding: "This is a disgrace.

"it’s 2019 not 1819 the wealth of this country and this is still happening, the government do nothing because it doesn’t effect their lives."

Pauline Hart added: "No the government will never take the blame what's happening to homeless people and disabled people is disgusting."

And Pat Hindley added: "Get rid of this government they don't care about people working class people are suffering think before you vote."

The Echo would like to pay a full and proper tribute to the man who died, if you have any information or tributes you would like to share please contact liam.thorp@reachplc.com
