Anger at Cineworld not showing Robert the Bruce film

Scots wanting to see the new Robert the Bruce film are angry after cinema giant Cineworld chose not to screen it at their branches in Scotland.

Other cinema chains, including Vue and Odeon, are showing it but Cineworld are not.

There has been an angry reaction to the decision, including from star of the movie Angus Macfadyen, who plays Robert the Bruce.

He tweeted : "Be interesting to hear why Scots in Scotland cannot see this film about our own local hero Robert the Bruce.

"We await your reason Cineworld. There is nothing to fear but fear itself, as the Bruce once said."

MP Carol Monaghan, who represents Glasgow NW, also tweeted about it saying: "I am just hearing that Cineworld cinemas appear to have decided not to show the new Robert the Bruce film.

"Cineworld, could you please confirm and explain your reasons for this decision?"

Disappointed fans have also voiced their frustration at the situation.

Andrew Mitchell said: "They will probably say they are trying not to be political. But by banning the film only in Scotland they are doing just that. # shameoncineworld"

User @greyscull47 tweeted: "The unionist fear must be reaching fever pitch when the won’t show a film in Scotland about one of our most iconic heroes."

Others defended the chain saying the decision must be for commercial reasons.

Steven Taylor said: "They likely think that it will cost them too much money by having to cut back on showing other films."

Twitter user @EG_105 said: "On what criteria SHOULD cineworld select films to show. In your answer, please demonstrate your understanding of the commercial models on which cineworld operate along with any other reasons you may wish to add other than a little flash of tartan."

Cineworld have been contacted for a comment.
