Anger as sign compares Jobpath centre in Cork to German concentration camp

A sign comparing a Jobpath centre in Cork to a German concentration camp has been blasted as pictures circulated online.

The Irish Polish Society shared the snaps on Facebook, showing a sign that reads “JOBPATH MACHT FREI”, a slogan known to be related to German concentration camps.

It is believed that Polish men asked the centre manager for action and the sticker disappeared in 20 minutes.

A spokesman said: “Big thanks to all involved. We can’t be indifferent to inhuman behaviour.”

Others were quick to slam the sign, saying: “An insult, needs to be investigated and the individual responsible sanctioned.”

Another added: “Disgusting behaviour, hope they catch whoever has done this.”

The Polish Embassy have been contacted for comment.

In a statement, the Department of Social Protection said: “Dept Employment Affairs and Social Protection confirms that an extremely offensive sign was placed on outside of Hanover Street office, Cork by unknown persons yesterday.

"It was removed immediately. We very much regret that this happened. We have reported it to the Gardaí.”
