Anger as part of play area at popular Midlands beach destroyed by vandals

Vandals have destroyed a section of the play area at an inland beach popular with people from Nottingham.

Bosworth Water Park blamed 'older teenagers' in a statement on their Facebook page after the play castle was damaged beyond repair.

The park, between Leicestershire and Warwickshire, has been jam-packed during the recent hot spell with people from across the Midlands travelling to the picturesque spot to have a splash.

Leicestershire Live reports that the water park issued a statement, saying: "The pirate galleon will remain however due to vandalism this afternoon caused by a group of older teenagers. The castle is damaged beyond repair.

"It's sad that a group of older children (who must have been here with their parents) have spoiled the enjoyment of others.

"This area is now closed until Monday, we will be removing the castle over the weekend."

One person commenting on the announcement on Facebook said: "I was here yesterday and the lack of parental supervision was astounding.

"I saw a child as young as two unsupervised in the water. It was shocking."

Another said: "Vile, sort your kids out!

"It’s not fair on the nice family’s that should be attending.

"They shouldn’t have to shut down because of irresponsible parents letting their kids run wild especially over the age."

One woman said she had been there at the time of the vandalism. She said: "None of them listened nor were their parents around!

"Wasn't until another parent shouted at them and stood by the ship to stop them going back on that they stopped.

"Me and a few parents were telling little ones to stay away from there as elder ones weren't listening and ruined it for many!"

On Sunday, July 18, the park reached maximum capacity and had to turn away new visitors.
