Anger as flashy Ferraris are parked on pedestrianised city centre road

Two expensive Ferrari cars have been spotted parked in a pedestrianised area of Liverpool city centre - prompting more anger about the issues of pavement parking.

Local writer Ronnie Hughes spotted the two flashy cars parked up on the hot spot for shoppers in School Lane, close to the Bluecoat Gallery.

He tweeted a picture of the red and grey cars - parked one behind the other in an area clearly reserved for those on foot.

Mr Hughes tweeted to say: "In School Lane, parked on the pavement. Because they can?"

This is just the latest example of expensive cars being parked selfishly and illegally around the city centre - something that is causing plenty of frustration and calls for the city council to take tougher action.

Speaking about the cars he spotted, Mr Hughes said: "Cars parked on pavements is an increasing problem all over the city that needs sorting.

"Particularly here in the city centre where cars don’t belong at all."

Judging by the comments in response to Mr Hughes' tweet, there are many others who feel anger at those who believe it is ok to leave their cars parked illegally around the city centre.

Roy said: "Yeah. They’ll just pay the fine, no problem. I had a mate like this. Funnily enough, his attitude to parking and fines told me a lot about his outlook on life. We’re no longer mates."

Ed Harris added: "The ‘I’ve got so much money I can do what I like’ brigade."

The Stranger in Liverpool twitter account added: "Towing is the only deterrent. The Commercial District is full of illegally parked cars that cost the price of a small house in Anfield.

"They'll soon cut it out if they risk temporarily losing possession of it."

City Centre Councillor Nick Small has been raising the issue of expensive and high powered cars being regularly parked on pavements around the city centre ward he represents.

He has highlighted the selfish practice on a number of occasions and said: "The message is a simple one: pavement parking is selfish and anti-social.  It means that people with disabilities and parents with prams find it harder to get around.  Park on pavements and we'll fine you."
