Anger as Fife school defibrillator stolen with thief urged to return device 'no questions asked'

News that a life-saving defibrillator has been stolen from a school has been met with anger in Fife.

Glenrothes High School confirmed on Monday morning that the device was stolen over the weekend, with only the yellow holding bag left behind by the culprit. They are urging the thief to return the equipment "no questions asked".

In a statement shared hundreds of times across social media they said: "We regret to announce that the defibrillator that was installed to save lives in our local community has been taken.

"The yellow bag had been left on school grounds but the defibrillator is gone. The ambulance service have confirmed that it has not been used.

"If you know anything or happen to find it, please contact the school as soon as possible. We just want to help someone who may need it. If you've taken it, please return it with no questions asked. It will save a life."

A number of people shared their disgust at the news.

Jennifer Dougall posted: "For goodness sake. The people that took it will not feel so smart if that could save one of their family's lives. And it's missing."

Shane Halstead added: "What actually goes through people's f****** heads stealing stuff like that."

Vicky Robertson Gemmell commented: "Absolutely disgusting that people stoop so low to steal something like this. HANG YOUR HEAD IN SHAME."

Police Scotland say "a report has been received relating to the theft of a defibrillator from Glenrothes High School between Friday 26 and Monday, 29 March 2021."

A spokesperson added: "Enquiries are at an early stage. Anyone who may have been in the area of the school over the weekend and saw or heard anything which might help in this enquiry is asked to call police on the 101 number, quoting the reference number 0870 of March 29."
