Anger as early-hours Nailsea School alarm 'could be heard a mile away'

Frustrated neighbours say an early-hours Nailsea School alarm could be heard up to a mile away on recent mornings.

Residents complained on Facebook's Nailsea Community Group about the noise coming from the mixed secondary on Mizzymead Road.

One woman posted at 7.17am on Saturday morning (September 26): "For the last two mornings it has gone off at 4.30am and as I write, it is still going. We need some sleep!"

Another woman revealed she could hear the alarm on Dunster Gardens at 8.41am that morning.

Eight minutes later, a third neighbour commented: "It’s still going off and could hear it up in Morgan’s Hill walking the dog."

Morgan's Hill is around a mile from Nailsea School.

A school spokeswoman said: "There was a problem with the school's alarm on Thursday and Friday evening.

"A technician was called in the first incidence and thought he had isolated the fault.

"However, it was revealed the following morning that he had not been successful and the alarm went off again.

"The technician returned and was successful in rectifying the problem. The school apologises to its neighbours for any inconvenience caused."

Commenting in the Facebook group, the school apologised and said: "Hopefully that should now be the end of the problem."
