Anger as disgusting fly-tippers dump pile of rubbish at Lanarkshire bridge

Residents in Strathaven have slammed disgusting fly-tippers who dumped a pile of waste at a bridge.

An emergency road closure is currently in place for safety reasons at the area on Brownmuir and Haptoncraig Highway following an incident in December at the Crags Bridge.

But this week a local discovered disgusting fly-tipping on the road - just one of many fly-tipping incidents in the Strathaven and East Kilbride area in recent months.

She posted: "Fly-tipping on the Crags Road at the closed bridge, lazy disgusting people."

Other residents were equally dismayed.

One wrote: "This will cost a pile of money to clean up."

And another went on: "We went for a walk and saw this too, shocking!"

Meanwhile, a man added: "Bloody wrong! Dirty lazy buggers!"

South Lanarkshire Council say they are aware of the incident and items will be uplifted as soon as possible.

Alistair McKinnon, head of facilities, waste and grounds services, added: “Fly-tipping is a blight on our communities and the council takes this criminal activity very seriously.

“Environmental Services investigates all reports of fly-tipping and will take enforcement action where the person responsible can be identified.

"We also encourage everyone to dispose of their waste properly and to take advantage of the special uplift service and civic amenity sites provided by the council.

“It’s not right or fair that these should be ruined for us by those few who care little about those spaces, or the people they share them with.

“Anyone who wants to report concerns about illegal dumping across South Lanarkshire can call 0303 123 1015 or get in touch via the website.”
