Anger as covidiot drivers block emergency services at East Lothian beauty spot

East Lothian locals have been left frustrated after drivers blocked emergency services' access to a local beauty spot, despite public warnings not travel more than five miles.

Phase one of the country's route map out of lockdown commenced on Friday and Scots have been making the most of public spaces, like parks and beaches, which are now open to sit in and enjoy.

However, the Scottish Government urged people to stay local, with Nicola Sturgeon stating: "If your car parks have been closed and your public toilets have been closed, keep them closed for now," adding that she didn't want "people flocking to beauty spots."

With this in mind, East Lothian Council took the decision to keep coastal and countryside car parks and childrens' play areas closed at this time - but this hasn't stopped people descending on the area's beauty spots as temperatures soared on Saturday during the country's mini heatwave.

One local shared a shocking photo of four cars blocking a coastguard vehicle's access to one East Lothian beach, with calls on social media for the drivers to be fined or have their cars towed away.

Residents have said that the coast has been "packed" and claimed that the local authority's efforts to keep car parks closed is not keeping people away.

Many commented the roads around Longniddry Bents were particularly packed, with cars parked along the side of the road as residents blasted beach-goers and one said it was "the worst they've seen it".

As lockdown eases, coastguard crews have also been busy, responding to a number of incidents including three kayakers who were left stranded when their inflatable boat began to sink near North Berwick on Friday.
