Anger as bags of rubbish dumped after travellers leave Nottingham playing fields

Piles of bagged up rubbish was dumped on a popular Nottingham playing fields after travellers illegally pitched up there.

Multiple bags of rubbish were left strewn across the playing fields in The Meadows, just off from the Victoria Embankment.

The waste was seen on the morning of Wednesday, May 5, leaving residents in the area upset at the "disrespect".

Multiple vans could be seen on The Meadows playing field, just off from the Victoria Embankment and River Trent last week.

The travellers were spotted pitching up at around 3.30pm on Thursday, April 29.

Nottingham City Council told Nottinghamshire Live the caravan occupants were served a notice to leave and if they failed to adhere to the notice they would instruct bailiffs to carry out an eviction.

The travellers and caravans have since left.

The playing fields are often a spot for games of cricket and football among residents and also popular with dog walkers and visitors to the Embankment.

Ashley Vince, 55, of The Meadows said the field was a "mess".

"It's really disrespectful for it to be left like that. It's a mess and is not good to see.

"There's not a lot that can be done about it though, someone will have to come and clear it."

Joel Rawton, 40, of The Meadows, said: "It's gross. Take it with you, don't expect others to do this."

A woman who did not wish to be named added: "It's a right state. It's a public park full of kids who play football so it sets a bad example for them.

"It can't be hard to take it with you."

Nottingham City Council has been contacted for comment

Nottinghamshire Live reported how caravans pitched up in the same spot on June 28 and August 11 last year. On both occasions, they were served notice by Nottingham City Council to leave the area.
