Anger after vandals trash two Royal Mail vans in East Lothian - taking them off the road

Two Royal Mail vans were unusable today (17 September) after vandals smashed their windscreens by pelting them with objects that included wine bottles and bricks, according to local postman Fergus Shepherd.

He shared a photo of one of the damaged vans on Facebook , saying:

"Thanks to the young team, two of our Royal Mail vans were off the road today, the yard was awash with broken wine bottles and bricks, no point in asking if you knew where your kids were last night!!

"Any info please get in touch with the police at the Pans station, 31 years service delivering in the Pans and I've never seen it so bad."

It follows a spate of vandalism in the Lothians. At the weekend, 25 windows at Musselburgh Burgh Primary were smashed, and vandals also trashed a West Lothian scout hall over the weekend , breaking six windows in a 'mindless' spree.

People were quick to comment on the photograph of the smashed Royal Mail van window, with one person saying:

"What a disgrace, between Pans, Musselburgh and Tranent vandalism is atrocious, but then no police and no deterrent - unreal."

Someone else added:

"Why would they get a kick out of doing something like that. The mind boggles."

If you have any information to share about this incident, please contact Police Scotland on 101. Alternatively, an anonymous report can be made to the charity Crimestoppers 0800 555 111.
