Anger after louts trash fence at Paisley Rugby Club grounds

Fuming Paisley Rugby Club bosses have appealed for information after louts tore down a “priceless” fence installed by volunteers.

Vandals smashed up the wooden barrier at The Anchor playing fields on Sunday night, leaving members to pick up the pieces.

Club officials condemned the mindless act of petty destruction and confirmed police are now investigating.

A number of wooden struts appeared to have been kicked or pulled from the upright posts from a fence surrounding the pitch during the incident.

The railing was bought, built and painted by volunteers determined to make the best of the facilities.

Its understood a trawl of CCTV is underway in the area and the club has asked anyone who may have any information about who
was responsible to get in touch.

A club statement says: “To some, it may just be a fence but to the members who put the work in to buy, build and paint the fence it’s priceless.

"As a community club, our funds go directly into fixing The Anchor up to be the best it can be for our members and this will now require more funding and time.

“We ask if anyone has any information about the perpetrators they contact us or the police directly. We all want what’s best for our community and acts of vandalism simply aren’t on. All CCTV is being checked and the police are in contact with us.”

Express readers with information can call police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

Club captain Euan Stuart added: “We are very disappointed about the vandalism. Our members work incredibly hard to keep rugby going at the club. We are a proud club and I have no doubt that we will all work hard to fix this act of yobbery and bounce back twice as strong.”
