Angels trounce Nakhon Ratchasima to stay perfect

Battle for ball: Bangkok United's Heberty Fernandes (left) vies with Nakhon Ratchasima's Charlie Clough on Saturday night.

Bangkok United maintained their perfect record in Thai League 1 to pile pressure on defending champions Buriram United ahead of the northeastern giants' clash with Pathum United on Sunday.

The Angels endured some tough time before taming Nakhon Ratchasima 3-0 at home on Saturday.

A 41st-minute goal from Mahmoud Eid and late strikes by Suphan Thongsong and Heberty Fernandes gave Bangkok United their fourth victory in as many games.

On Friday night, Ratchaburi won their fourth straight match with a 2-0 victory over hosts Nongbua Pitchaya.

Derley and Alvin Fortes were on target to help Ratchaburi pick up three points.

The result is likely to put Nongbua coach Thawatchai Dumrong-ongtrakul's job in peril, but he was defiant after the loss.

"The decision about my future will be taken by me. Right now, I am the head coach and I hope that the team will bounce back," he said.

"If the team continue to fail, I will accept the responsibility and won't prolong my stay at the club."

Ref dies in road mishap

In a shock news, match referee Theethichai Nualchan, a former Fifa referee, died in a car accident after officiating in the game between Nongbua Pitchaya and Ratchaburi.

Reports stated Theethichai was on his way home when the fatal accident took place.
