The Texas Rangers are playing in a new ballpark this year at Globe Life Field, which probably still has opposing outfielders getting a feel for the dimensions.
But I don’t think an unfamiliar outfield could be to blame for whatever happened to Angels right fielder Jo Adell on Sunday.
With the Rangers’ Nick Solak batting in the fifth inning, he drove a deep fly ball towards the warning track in right field. But it should have been a routine out to end the inning.
That wasn’t what happened, though.
Adell got turned around while tracking the ball and as he attempted to make the catch, the baseball hit off his glove and went over the wall.
YIKES.
Adell’s reaction was appropriate for that kind of blunder. On the bright side, at least no fans were there to see that happen. He wouldn’t have heard the end of that one.
And while the Rangers broadcast called that sequence as a home run for Solak, it was actually a four-base error on Adell. So, it was a “home run” in spirit, but Solak’s average took a hit for the mishap.
Still funny, though.
