It has been a huge binge watch success for the BBC and, just as it's been nominated for a top TV award, Angels of the North has been handed a third series.
Within days of launching on BBC iPlayer at the end of 2019, the series, shot at Longlox salon in Gateshead, had been viewed hundreds of thousands of times, meaning a second series was an absolute no brainer.
While filming on that was disrupted due to the coronavirus pandemic, filming finally wrapped in the autumn, with the full series swiftly available to view and streaming figures for the show now over the 7million mark.
And now, following the news that Angels of the North made the longlist for this year's TV Choice awards, the BBC have confirmed that a third series is coming and will feature two businesses with strong connections to Longlox owner Sammyjo Pearson and her team.
Joining Longlox as a focus for this series is well known Newcastle tattoo business Pure Ink Studios, run by Shane Guttridge, 28, who has been a friend of Sammyjo since they were children.
Also featuring in this series is the Bilton Hall ABC Boxing club in Jarrow. Among the young boxers who train at the gym is Ewan, 23, boyfriend of Longlox hair extensionist Kallie, 20.

Ewan is hoping to turn pro and being coached by Callum Larson, 29. Callum is a personal trainer and the third generation of his family to train boxing talent at Bilton Hall.
Made by Twenty Six 03 Entertainment, Angels Of The North will premiere on BBC iPlayer as an eight-part boxset later this year.
Rachel Ashdown, Entertainment Commissioner for BBC Three, said: “Angels of the North has been a massive success for the last two series so we’re really happy to be developing and expanding its scope and scale.
"We’re growing the Angels of the North universe; bringing in more people who are connected to the salon to offer a real snapshot of life in the North East for ambitious young people.
"The series is fun, relatable and full of brilliant personalities and surprising stories.”
Antonia Hurford-Jones and Duncan Gray, Twenty Six 03 Entertainment Executive Producers, added: “Get ready for an even funnier and even more addictive Angels of the North as we bring in some incredible new characters to join fan favourites Sammyjo, Bev and the girls.”
