Angels of the North filming halted as Gateshead's Longlox salon closes due to coronavirus concerns

Production on hit Geordie TV show Angels of the North has been halted due to coronavirus concerns.

On Thursday afternoon, Gateshead's Longlox Supersalon, where the BBC show is filmed, announced on social media that it would be closing to keep staff and customers safe as coronavirus continues to spread across the UK.

A statement on Lomglox's Instagram page read: "In regards to COVID-19 we're very sorry to say that we've decided to close Longlox Supersalon for the next two weeks. We are doing this to keep our staff and clients as safe as possible.

"All existing appointments will be re-scheduled after Saturday, April 4. We will still be on social media daily to answer questions as normal, or to reschedule appointments.

"Safety is our upmost priority for you all. Thank you for all your ongoing support. Stay safe everyone. We are all in this together."

Angels of the North was an instant hit with viewers when it launched on BBC iPlayer in December and was downloaded more than 200,000 times in the first 48 hours.

After over 1.4 million streams, it was confirmed it would return for series 2 with Longlox owner Sammy-jo Pearson posting: "My Longlox girls, Bev my mamager, and me - we’re all ready for Series 2. You ain’t seen nothing yet."

A statement from the BBC about production stopping on Angels of the North, read: "In light of the spread of Covid-19, after much consideration, Twenty Six 03, production on ‘Angels of the North’ will be temporarily pausing filming both in consultation with and supported by the BBC.

"We will continue to review all productions on a case by case basis and will continue to follow the latest news and advice from the Foreign Office, World Health Organisation and Public Health England.”

EastEnders suspended filming on Wednesday as well as the BBC halting filming on Casualty, Holby City, Doctors and River City too. Other TV shows affected so far include Loose Women, Coronation Street, Emmerdale and Saturday Night Takeaway.
