Angels' Josh Hamilton lists Newport mansion for sale at $16.5 million

April 18--Angels outfielder Josh Hamilton has put his mansion-estate in Newport Coast on the market for $16.5 million.

The Provence-style residence, sited on the highest point in the Crystal Cove community, takes in wide views of the harbor, Santa Catalina Island and the surrounding coastline.

Built in 2013, the 10,850-square-foot house has vaulted ceilings, exposed beams, stone finishes and an elevator servicing all three levels.

Among features is an office, a parlor room, formal living and dining areas with a two-sided fireplace, a center-island kitchen, six bedrooms and 8.5 bathrooms. A lower entertainment level is highlighted by a family room, a wine cellar, a game room, a home theater and an eight-car garage.

Designed for indoor-outdoor entertaining, the home has telescoping doors that open to a loggia with a sitting area set beneath stone arches. An outdoor kitchen, formal landscaping and an infinity-edge pool and spa complete the nearly half-acre setting.

The property previously sold for $12 million in May 2013, records show.

Kevin Aaronson of Keller Williams Realty is the listing agent.

Hamilton, who reported a relapse in his battle with substance abuse in February, has seen his relationship with Arte Moreno strained in recent weeks, with the team owner taking a hard stance against the outfielder. Owed $83 million over the next three years, the 33-year-old is rehabilitating from right-shoulder surgery in Houston.
