'Angels in uniform' - family praise Edinburgh hospital staff as they welcome Hibs-daft grandad home

Staff at the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary have been thanked by a family as their relative returned to home to cheers and a piper.

Siobhan Fenwick posted the heartwarming video on Twitter thanking the 'angels in uniform' NHS Heroes as Ross Fenwick returned home.

She said he had spent 10 weeks in the NHS Lothian hospital.

Siobhan had previously shared a video earlier in May showing Ross Fenwick leaving the critical care unit after he spent some 38 days there.

A die-hard Hibee, he stunned family members when he awoke from a five-day coma and asked how his beloved club was doing.

Ross Fenwick, 63, was admitted to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary at the start of April when a chest infection diagnosed by his GP rapidly deteriorated.

The grandfather was placed in an induced coma and required treatment on a ventilator as family members feared for his life.

As he returned home an excited wee boy in the video can be seen jumping for joy as his grandad returns in the car, before running to welcome him home.

Siobhan, 34, previously revealed the family were “ill with worry” after being told Ross’ condition was “touch and go” on a number of occasions.

But thrilled to have him home, she posted on Twitter on Monday to say: "10 LONG weeks we have waited for this moment and today he’s home.

"Thank you to everyone for your kind words and well wishes. I can’t even explain the emotions we’ve been through. So grateful for our wonderful #NHS @RIE_Lothian for everything, you are angels in uniform."
