Angelo Alessio delivers Kilmarnock fans message as he departs Scottish football

Angelo Alessio has thanked the Kilmarnock fans after being sacked by the Ayrshire club.

The Italian was only appointed in the summer but his tenure was marked by dressing room unrest and concerns about his ability to get his ideas across in his second language.

His tenure got off to the worst possible start when a home defeat to Connah's Quay Nomads sent them spinning from the Europa League in the 1st qualifying round.

Things looked grim but they steadily improved and were sitting in fifth spot in the Premiership with the third best defensive record in the league when the axe fell.

And yet the big picture may have masked underlying issues - Killie have only one once in their last eight games.

Alessio , who looked surprisingly spry as he left Rugby Park yesterday, took to social media site Instagram to send a message to the Killie faithul.

He said: "Thanks to the fans for supporting me.

"Wish Kilmarnock Football Club all the best  #killie "
