Angelo Alessio breaks Kilmarnock silence as former manager opens up on 'inexplicable' sacking

Former Kilmarnock manager Angelo Alessio admits he found the club's decision to sack him "inexplicable".

The former Juventus midfielder was appointed to replace Steve Clarke in the summer, but lasted just six months.

He was sacked in December after a 1-0 defeat to Ross County, and the Italian confesses he doesn't understand the decision.

Alessio told TuttoJuve: "I went to Scotland with so much enthusiasm and curiosity.

"I had the chance to coach Kilmarnock for six months, which is a historic club that was founded all the way back in 1869.

"The league is, historically, seen through the rivalry of Rangers and Celtic. These two teams are basically a league apart and are on another level.

"Scottish football is more fast and direct, more physical, but, clearly, less tactical.

"Technically, however, the level is higher than we (in Italy) would imagine.

"I think one of the positive things is that they view matches with passion and attention, but it's all calm during the week.

"I was sacked in the middle of December when we were fifth and competing for the top places.

"It was inexplicable, I cannot explain it to you.

"In October I'd even received the award for manager of the month."

Alessio was replaced by Alex Dyer, Clarke's former assistant who had remained at the club when the Italian took charge.
