Angelino explains Man City motivation after returning to RB Leipzig

RB Leipzig loanee Angelo has stated his reasons for his return to the Bundesliga side on loan from Manchester City, where he expressed disappointment over his spell in the Premier League.

The Spanish full-back made just six league appearances for City over the course of two stints, with all of appearances coming in his second spell with the club.

Angelino moved to Leipzig on loan in January, helping the club reach the semi-finals of the Champions League, and re-joined the Bundesliga side for the 2020/21 season this summer.

While he is delighted to be back with the German side, he has expressed his disappointment over his lack of playing time in Pep Guardiola's side.

"I have that thorn of why I did not play more or I did not quite fit in. But that helped me get here, meet the coach, the group, and reach the semis in the Champions League," he told Marca.

Angelino also explained the main reason for his return to RB Leipzig, stating that the lure of continuing to work alongside Julian Nagelsmann was key.

"If I'm honest, I'm here for Nagelsmann. I signed again for him. I was very happy with him, the way he played, everything, everything he transmits, the tactics, fits me perfectly. He's the reason I'm here. Obviously, the relationship with colleagues is also very good."

There was also links with Barcelona over the course of the summer, which Angelo also addressed: "Something came out of interest, but Leipzig pulled a lot for me to come back and in my head, I wanted to be calm and continue enjoying football I was doing in recent months and stayed there."

Angelino is now pushing for a call-up to the Spain squad, having scored a brace in the Champions League victory over Istanbul Basaksehir in midweek.
