Angelino admits he is unsure of key clause that will secure Man City exit

Angelino has reaffirmed his desire to make his loan from Manchester City to RB Leipzig permanent but has admitted he does not know how many games he must play to trigger an obligation to buy clause.

The Spanish left-back is in his second loan spell at Leipzig after the German club could not afford the agreed £25m price to make the first spell permanent last summer, due to the financial implications of the global pandemic.

Instead, a new season-long loan was agreed this summer, with Angelino stepping up his performances with five goals and one assist in 11 appearances this season from his favoured left wingback position.

All the noises coming from Angelino and his loan club suggest there is a desire to complete the deal to sign him permanently at the end of this current loan spell, and he has made that clear once again in quotes from Kicker.

However, Angelino has admitted he does not know at what point Leipzig will have to pay City the reported €20m fee to sign him, with an obligation to purchase clause included in this season's loan.

He said: “I really don’t know for sure, but a few more games need to be played. If everything goes normally, it will happen.

"In any case, I hope that I’ll be on the pitch for RB Leipzig for a long time to come”.

Angelino's admission is no surprise, after he previously admitted he rejected an approach from Barcelona to return to Leipzig.

He said: "I have that thorn of why I did not play more or I did not quite fit in [at City]. But that helped me get here, meet the coach, the group, and reach the semis in the Champions League.

"If I'm honest, I'm here for [Julian] Nagelsmann. I signed again for him. I was very happy with him, the way he played, everything, everything he transmits, the tactics, fits me perfectly. He's the reason I'm here. Obviously, the relationship with colleagues is also very good.

"Something came out of interest [from Barcelona], but Leipzig pulled a lot for me to come back and in my head, I wanted to be calm and continue enjoying football I was doing in recent months and stayed there."
