Angelina Jolie says new movie was like 'a bit of therapy' amid divorce from Brad Pitt

Angelina Jolie says her new movie was like "therapy".

The Hollywood star is currently going through a bitter divorce with husband Brad Pitt, but says she found comfort in working on Those Who Wish Me Dead.

The mum-of-six, 45, stars in the upcoming flick as a firefighter suffering with PTSD.

She told Extra : "I’ve been very lucky. It’s a bit of therapy. I’ve gotten to step into roles like this when I’ve needed to start swinging again."

Speaking of her character's journey, she added: "I can’t tell you everything... She starts being very broken, failed her psych exam… We all have those moments in our lives, where just don’t know what we’ve got in us… we’re low.

"It was important for me, at that moment, to see if I could do it, and to get literally through the fire... It felt like a good run we had together, and a good fight to push ourselves as people."

Angelina has previously described the movie as a "healing" experience for her.

She told People : "I am drawn to people who have been through something and are broken and then find their way forward and overcome it.

"As an artist, it's very healing to play people like that. She's been very healing for me, because you just get so broken and then you stand back up."

The Maleficent star is currently going through a divorce with Once Upon A Time in Hollywood star Brad, who she married in 2014 after they met and fell in love in 2005 on the set of their movie Mr & Mrs Smith, when Brad was still married to Friends star Jennifer Aniston.

Together, they shared six kids - Maddox, 19, Pax, 17, Zahara, 16, Shiloh, 14, and Knox and Vivienne, 12.

Angelina filed for divorce in August 2016, citing irreconcilable differences and requesting primary custody of their children.

The former couple's lawyer released a statement at the time, saying: "This decision was made for the health of the family. She will not be commenting, and asks that the family be given its privacy at this time."
