Angela Lonsdale lands new soap role 20 years on from Coronation Street stardom

Angela Lonsdale has had the backing of her famous friends as she return to soap land, more than 20 years after enjoying huge TV fame on Coronation Street.

In the early 00s, Angela, a stalwart of Newcastle event Sunday for Sammy, was known to millions of ITV viewers as PC Emma Taylor in Corrie, with her famous on screen alias enjoying a romance with Wetherfield icon Curly Watts. Emma and Curly's exit storyline saw them leave the cobbles behind with their son 2003 as her job took her home to Newcastle and actress Emma stayed with the police theme for her next TV role, joining the cast of long-running ITV crime drama The Bill, staying on the show until 2008.

Clearly a fan of being a TV cop, Geordie star Angela then went onto star as DI Eva Moore in BBC soap Doctors, before appearing in North East shot BBC children's series Wolfblood.

And now Angela has taken a trip back into the world of soap for a high profile role in much loved Channel 4 show Hollyoaks. The 54-year-old'a latest on screen alias, Gill Holmes. is embroiled in a dark storyline as the mother of young killer Joseph. Angela hit the ground running with her Hollyoaks debut last week as police arrived outside Gill's family home in search for evidence to prove that Joseph was involved in the murder Saul Reeves.

Taking to Instagram to share the news of her TV return, Angela received a phone call 'out of the blue' which led to her landing the role, adding that it had been "a joy," to work with the cast and crew of Hollyoaks.

Angela's celeb pals were quick to react to the news, with another ex Coronation Street star, Michelle Keegan replying to Angela's Insta post to write: "Yayy! So exciting congratulations Ange!" Another friend, former X Factor host Kate Thornton, reacted: "Congrats darling!"
