Angela Lansbury, star of the iconic crime series Murder, She Wrote, has said she is “thrilled to be part of reggae” after hearing the Nineties song of the same name for the first time.
During an interview on a CBC radio show, host Tom Power played the Chaka Demus and Pliers track “Murder She Wrote” to Lansbury.
“Angela, have you ever heard that before?” he asked. “That is reggae dancehall masters Chaka Demus and Pliers. That’s their song ‘Murder She Wrote’.”
To which the actor laughed and replied: “That’s very funny. Who are they? What are they? A group?”
“Yeah,” said Power, “they’re sort of like legends in reggae music.”
“Oh, reggae,” Lansbury came back. “Oh, I’m thrilled to be part of reggae, of course.”
Murder, She Wrote ran for 12 seasons between 1984 and 1996 and starred Lansbury as mystery writer and amateur detective Jessica Fletcher.
Lansbury was nominated for ten Golden Globes and 12 Emmy Awards for her work on the show.
